What if you loved someone very much and you wanted to demonstrate that love. What if you baked a beautiful cake for them every week. You stand at their door with the cake and knock, but they don't answer. You love them, so you leave the cake by the door. Each week, they find the cake outside. They love the cake, but they have no interest in finding out where it came from. Wouldn't they be missing out by not knowing the baker? Yes, they have all the beautiful and delicious cake they need. They can admire it, be in awe of the intricate design details in the frosting, marvel at the taste... but they are missing out on a loving relationship with you, the baker.
Is revering the universe really just idol worship on a grand scale? Our most meaningful relationships are personal, most of us don't deeply connect with rocks (or cakes). If 'as above, so below', wouldn't it make sense that our most transcendent relationship would also be a personal one? Why model connections down here with persons, if the ultimate relationship is with a non-personal entity?
A relationship with the Creator of the universe will not necessarily involve a vow of poverty, nor will it automatically guarantee material wealth. Yes, it will take care of your needs in the here and now. Much more importantly, it will also bring you joy in this life and it will open the door to continuing that relationship in the next.
He gave us the curiosity to want to know who the Baker is. Maybe we should use it?
